If I had known last week how flowery Charlottesville gets, I might have been less impressed with the cherry blossoms in our nation's capital. Charlottesville trees are the most exuberant of any I've ever seen – just bursting with white, purple, pink, yellow blossoms. They look like a 3-year-old has taken to the bare branches with a box of Crayola Crayons.

We also paid a visit to TJ, of course. He was his usual regal self, commanding the room of tourists in awe.

But still, April in D.C. is the quintessential Mid-Atlantic way to herald spring.

If you haven't taken a trip from Charlottesville to D.C., spring is the perfect time. The trip is just 2.5 hours or so by car, and both Amtrak and Greyhound make it very easy (though longer).
